Kelvin was born on August 26, 1974, to Julius (deceased) and Bettye Bailey. Raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Kelvin graduated from Columbia Union College with a B.A. in Pastoral Ministries in 2006.
Originally baptized in 1995, he rededicated his life to God in 1997, at which time God began to bless him through the gift of poetry. Kelvin's desire is to open up people’s eyes to a better life by walking with God. He is remorseful that he got caught up in the flashy lifestyle of selling drugs at a young age, and even after he stopped selling drugs he began to hustle for money by gambling. But Kelvin is a witness that God can save to the utmost and there is hope for those who seem hopeless. Kelvin can remember people saying that he was no good and that he would never amount to anything, but he realized that without God none of us will ever amount to anything.
Kelvin has been reciting poetry since 1997. He has traveled throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, and other states. Kelvin has recited poems for city events, youth rallies, rallies against drugs, children’s services, as well as other events.
In 2004, Kelvin, his brother Kenneth Bailey, and Tracee Oglesby, founded Standing for Christ Ministries. Their goal is to try and show people that there is a better way to get ahead in life and that the streets are not the only way out. The ministry wants to begin breaking the yoke--the cycle that tells so many inner city youth that the only way out is by selling drugs. The poems in Kelvin's book entitled, "My World," are from his heart, and one message is clear: "don't ever give up on your dreams to be somebody special and positive in this life."
One dream of SFC Ministries is to open up a community center for youth to help expose them to all the positive things that our world has to offer. SFC Ministries wants to be Christ to people, not by church doctrine, but by loving them.
